Unity Game Development Company India: How to Vet One

iJurug Soft2026-09-255 min read

Choosing a Unity game development company in India goes well when you arrive with three decisions already made: what the core loop is, which platforms you launch on, and whether the game will be run as a live service. Those choices set the team shape, the timeline and the tech stack far more than the studio's showreel does.

If your project blends play with AR, VR, training or interactive 3D, tell us what you have in mind and we will say plainly whether it fits our Unity work.

Decision one: scope the game around its core loop

The core loop is the thing the player does again and again: match, shoot, build, explore, answer. Every other feature hangs off it. Studios can estimate a clear loop with a feature list; they cannot estimate "an engaging game like the popular ones".

Write a one-page game brief

Prototype before production

Ask for a grey-box prototype first: simple shapes, no final art, just the loop. If it is not fun or clear with cubes, beautiful art will not save it. A good studio will suggest this phase themselves.

Plan the content volume honestly

Fifty levels, twenty characters and three worlds is a content problem as much as a code problem. Ask the studio how they will produce levels at that scale: hand-built, tool-assisted with a custom level editor, or procedurally generated. The answer shapes both the team and the schedule, and it is where many estimates quietly go wrong.

Decision two: platforms and their constraints

Unity's cross-platform build system is its biggest strength, but "build once, ship everywhere" is never literally true.

Mobile

India's players are overwhelmingly on Android, often on mid-range devices. Budget for aggressive optimisation, small download size (consider Addressables to stream content after install) and testing across many handsets. iOS adds its own review process and device matrix.

PC, console and WebGL

PC and console mean controller support, higher-fidelity art and, for console, platform certification requirements. Unity's WebGL export suits short brand games and playable ads, but has memory limits on mobile browsers.

XR headsets

Unity is the dominant engine for Meta Quest and many other headsets. XR titles need comfortable locomotion, hand or controller interaction and a steady frame rate to avoid motion sickness.

Render pipeline choice

The Universal Render Pipeline (URP) covers mobile, XR and most PC games. The High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) targets high-end PC and console visuals. Picking the wrong one early is expensive to reverse.

Decision three: live-ops or ship-and-done?

A live-service game is a product, not a project. It needs:

If you cannot staff ongoing updates, design a complete, finished game instead. Many brand, education and training games are better this way.

How to vet a Unity game development company in India

Play their builds

Install published titles from the stores on a mid-range Android phone. Check load time, frame smoothness, battery drain and crash behaviour. Read the store reviews for recurring technical complaints.

Inspect the pipeline

  1. Which Unity version do they use, and how do they handle upgrades mid-project?
  2. Version control for large binary assets: Git with LFS, Unity Version Control or Perforce?
  3. Automated builds and testing, or manual exports from one developer's machine?
  4. How do they profile, and what frame-time budget do they set per platform?

Confirm ownership and handover

Your contract should give you the full Unity project, source code, art source files and store accounts in your name. Ask how third-party Asset Store packages are licensed, because some licences are per seat.

Meet the people who will actually build it

Sales calls are often led by founders or account managers. Ask to speak with the lead developer and the art lead who would be assigned to your project, and ask what else they are working on at the same time. Split attention across several projects is a common reason Unity games slip.

Where iJurug Soft fits

iJurug Soft is a software studio, not a dedicated games publisher. Our Unity work sits within our AR/VR and metaverse services: VR training simulations, gamified learning, product visualisation, virtual showrooms and interactive 3D experiences for Quest, mobile and web. If that is your brief, senior engineers work on it on fixed milestones, from Discover through Launch & grow. For large commercial games with long live-ops roadmaps, a specialist games studio may suit you better, and we will tell you so. If you are building your own team instead, see our guide to hiring Unity developers in India.

Frequently asked questions

Is Unity still the right engine for mobile games?

For most mobile and XR projects, yes: mature tooling, a wide talent pool in India and strong Android support. Unreal suits high-end visuals; lightweight web games may use HTML5 engines.

How long does a Unity game take to build?

It varies with scope, content volume, platforms and multiplayer. A prototype phase gives a far more reliable production estimate than any upfront guess.

What does a Unity game cost in India?

Scope, art style, platforms, multiplayer and live-ops needs all drive it. We don't publish prices; share your brief and we will quote clearly for the parts that fit our Unity work.

Can a Unity game later add VR support?

Often, but interaction and comfort need redesign, not just a port. Plan for it early if VR is likely.

Send us your one-page brief, target platforms and timeline, and we will reply with an honest view and a milestone plan. Use our start-a-project form or write to info@ijurugsoft.com.
