Before you hire Swift developers in India, decide which part of the Apple ecosystem you are building for. Swift now runs across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Vision Pro and even servers, and each surface demands different frameworks. Verify the specific skills your product needs, then structure the engagement around milestones, ownership and a clean handover.
Have a product plan already? Send us a short brief and we will tell you which Swift skills it really needs.
One language, many platforms: define the role first
"Swift developer" is a broad label. An engineer who has spent five years on banking apps may never have touched WidgetKit or HealthKit, and a strong watchOS developer may know little about StoreKit. Write the role around the surfaces and frameworks your roadmap includes, not around the language alone.
A quick way to scope the role
- iPhone and iPad only: SwiftUI, UIKit interop, networking, persistence and App Store releases.
- Plus Apple Watch: watchOS app lifecycle, complications through WidgetKit, and data sync with the phone app.
- Plus Mac: Mac Catalyst or a native macOS target, menus, windows and keyboard-first interaction.
- Plus Vision Pro: visionOS windows, volumes and immersive spaces with RealityKit.
- Plus backend: server-side Swift with Vapor, if you want one language across client and server.
Apple-ecosystem skills to verify
Beyond core Swift, these frameworks separate specialists from generalists. Ask for a concrete example of each one relevant to your product.
System integration frameworks
- WidgetKit and Live Activities. Home screen and lock screen widgets, timelines, and Live Activities for deliveries, rides or scores through ActivityKit.
- App Intents. Exposing actions to Siri, Shortcuts and Spotlight so your app shows up outside itself.
- Push notifications. APNs, notification service extensions for rich media, and communication notifications.
Data, health and commerce
- SwiftData and Core Data. Modelling, migrations and syncing with CloudKit.
- HealthKit. Permission design, reading and writing samples, and respecting Apple's strict rules on health data use.
- StoreKit 2. Subscriptions, transaction verification, server notifications and handling refunds or billing retries.
Spatial and graphics work
For visionOS, look for RealityKit and Reality Composer Pro experience and an understanding of spatial interaction design. Metal skills matter only if you are doing custom rendering. If you are exploring spatial collaboration, our article on building a mixed reality collaboration tool outlines the moving parts.
How to check without a long interview
Ask the candidate to open a project they have worked on (or a sample they can share) and walk you through how one of these frameworks is wired in. Ten minutes of screen-share tells you whether the experience is first-hand.
Engineering practices that keep Swift code healthy
Modularisation with Swift Package Manager, unit and UI tests with XCTest and the newer Swift Testing framework, CI builds with Xcode Cloud or GitHub Actions, and readiness for Swift 6's strict concurrency checks. These are what make a codebase easy to hand to the next developer.
Where Indian Swift talent is strongest
India has many engineers with years of iPhone experience in fintech, commerce and consumer apps, so core iOS skills are easy to find. Watch, Mac and visionOS depth is scarcer, and so is experience with StoreKit subscriptions at scale. If those are central to your product, screen for them explicitly and be prepared to look longer for the right person or partner.
How to structure the engagement
Hiring well is half the job. The other half is an engagement structure that protects you as the product grows.
Milestones, not open-ended hours
Break the roadmap into milestones with clear acceptance criteria, for example "subscription flow live in TestFlight with receipt validation and restore purchases". Milestones keep scope visible and make progress easy to judge even if you are not technical.
Ownership and access
- Keep the Apple Developer account, App Store Connect and certificates under your organisation.
- Host the repository in your own GitHub or GitLab organisation from day one.
- Make sure the contract assigns intellectual property to you and covers confidentiality.
Communication rhythm
Agree on a daily written update, a weekly demo on a real device and a shared backlog. Plan three to four hours of overlap with your time zone for decisions and reviews.
Handover and continuity
Ask for architecture notes, a setup guide that gets a new engineer building within a day, and documented release steps. Good partners write these as they go, not at the end.
Hire Swift developers in India as individuals or as a team?
Individual contractors suit a company with an existing iOS lead. When nobody in-house owns Apple platforms, a small team with a senior lead, QA and design support usually delivers faster and with fewer surprises. Our guide to hiring mobile app developers in Bangalore compares the options in more detail.
iJurug Soft is a Bangalore studio, founded in 2018, that builds Apple-platform and cross-platform apps within our web and mobile app development services. We put senior engineers on every engagement, run projects through Discover, Design, Build, then Launch and grow with fixed milestones, and offer long-term support after release.
Frequently asked questions
Is Swift or a cross-platform framework better for our app?
Choose Swift when you need deep Apple features such as widgets, HealthKit, Watch or visionOS. If the app is mostly forms and content on both iOS and Android, a cross-platform framework may be more efficient.
Can one developer cover iPhone, Watch and Mac?
Sometimes, for a small app. For a product with serious features on each platform, a team with a lead who understands all of them is safer.
Can you take over an existing Swift codebase?
Yes. We start with a code and release-process review, fix blockers, and then continue feature work with a documented plan.
What affects the budget for Swift developers?
The platforms involved, framework complexity, seniority, team size and duration. We do not publish rates; we quote after reviewing your roadmap.
